Maria Roosen
FLOW (watercolors)
22 June – 27 July 2019
Opening: Saturday 22 June, 5 – 7 pm

FLOW (watercolors), Maria Roosen’s fourth solo exhibition at Galerie Fons Welters also marks her 25th anniversary at the gallery. For the first time, Roosen is showing a solo presentation of watercolors, which have always been at the source of her sculptural work. The title of the exhibition refers to the inherent fluidity of the material that she uses. She explores natural forms in watercolor and in glass; both start liquid, and eventually find their shape. The creative process and craftsmanship are a long and personal development for Roosen, just as important as the final result.
Her colourful works are translations of emotions that communicate in a direct and tactile way. The organic forms show fragility and discover what is not possible in reality. With her imagination she gives shape to feeling.

Maria Roosen (Oisterwijk NL, 1957) lives and works in Arnhem and studied at The Arnhem Academy of Art and Design and Moller Institute in Tilburg. Recently her work was on view in the solo exhibitions ‘Vuur’, Kunsthal KaDe, Amersfoort (NL); ‘Looking Back’ in Park, Tilburg and in ‘Fruits of Love’ in Roberto Polo Gallery, Brussels (BE). Exhibitions with Roosen’s work include: ‘Vrijheid – fifty key dutch artworks since 1968, De Fundatie, Zwolle (NL); Spiegeloog, Museum Arnhem (NL); ‘Best Mooi’ with Lily van der Stokker, Galerie Fons Welters, Amsterdam (NL); ‘Middle Gate’, curated by Jan Hoet, Geel (BE); ‘Maria's, Maria's’, Stedelijk Museum Schiedam (NL); Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle (BE); M HKA, Antwerp; Museum Kunst Palast, Dusseldorf (DE); Dutch pavilion, Venice Biennial 1995.
