First of all, Galerie Fons Welters wishes you a very happy new year.
The kick-off for this year will be a Group Show with work by artists of the gallery. With:

New Sculptures by Thomas Houseago (GB 1972): The large scale figurative works of Thomas Houseago, cast in plaster, try to chart essential human experiences. After his solo exhibition in Galerie Fons Welters in 2000, Houseago now presents two new works.

New work by Gabriel Lester (Amsterdam, 1972): Last summer Gabriel Lester was invited to compose a solo exhibition in Istanbul, entitled 'Gift of Gab'. One of the large scale works he envised for that exhibition is now recreated in a new form for this Group Show. The work, \'Tacked Cuttings\', is something like a painterly installation with scraps of magazine cuttings.

Small embroideries by Berend Strik (Nijmegen, 1960): Recently, Berend Strik has been working on a series of small embroideries. Strik makes paintings that he embroideres over images that already exist - from magazines, pornographic images and other clips and cuttings. In the series The Old, The Real & The New, existing photographs are lifted out of their usual context. The banality of the images that surround us daily is covered by Strik's embroideries, and thereby transformed. Images are created that are more tactile, and in their concreteness it seems as if they are closer to us than they were in their original form.
